Voyage across the top of the world to Wrangel & Herald Islands, Siberia with local residents, Carole & Michael. Wed Oct 5, 7pm

  • Wednesday, October 05, 2016
  • 19:00 - 20:30
  • Studio

This unique expedition crosses the Arctic Circle and includes the isolated and pristine Wrangel and Herald Islands and a significant section of the wild North Eastern Siberian coastline. It is a journey only made possible in recent years by the thawing in the politics of the region and the retreat of summer pack ice in the Chukchi Sea. The very small distance between Russia and the USA along this border area was known as the Ice Curtain, behind which then and now lies one of the last great undiscovered wilderness areas in the world.

Carole Gobeil, a new resident in Wakefield is a veteran in the travel industry for over 40 years; she has avidly and passionately been traveling to the Canadian Arctic, Greenland, Iceland for the past 11 years, with a few detours to Antarctica between those voyages. Adding to her list of polar adventures this summer, will be Siberia on an expedition ship. And her partner Michael will be joining her (his first!). They would like to share this Nordic part of the world with you with photos and stories. Space is limited. Free admission

To book your seat, please call Carole at 613-795-2824 or by email at carole@carolegobeil.ca
